Cake a Day Challenge~ Day Six

Made at my brother's request, although he won't get to taste these (sorry Stu!). I have plans to tweak them and make them postable. You can find the original recipe here , although these are made to my own recipe, not from a box of cake mix!

Brides don't have to wear white- why should their cakes?!

This week's Cake a Day Challenge cakes will all be based on one colour and shape, so today's photo is of the cake in it's most simple, elegant form.

Cake a Day Challenge~ Day Three

Fondant icing isn't for everyone, but butter icing is often seen as an inferior alternative when it comes to celebration cakes. I beg to differ!

Cake a Day, Day Two

I had some leftover butter cream in the fridge, so I iced a dummy with a dome, then mini rose swirls and added pearls and a touch of lustre spray. I love it! Shame the dummy is a little lost in the case.

Cake a Day Challenge~ Day One!

I've set myself a challenge to photograph a cake a day in order to build up my portfolio. Here's Day One. A crispie cake for a customer to take to a barbecue this weekend- what a fab pudding for the children!

You can follow #cakeaday on Twitter. I'd love to see people joining in, either with their own cakes, or those they love :) Don't forget to credit the original source if they're not yours though ;)

Cupcakes for men

Cupcakes for men are always tricky. They're typically quite girly and pretty, so with no colour preference from the customer, I just went for navy and ivory... with a bit of lustre because cupcakes have to be a bit pretty, right?!

Crispie Cake Take Two

I'm getting a bit into my Crispie Cakes now! I had a bit of a play this morning and made a chocolate and malteaser one- sprayed gold of course!

Cupcake Parties

More because of circumstance than anything else (I was too ill to spend hours decorating), my sons and their friends decorated their own cupcakes at their third birthday party. They loved it so much I will be adding cupcake parties for children and adults (think hen parties etc) to my repertoire. Details to follow soon...

Something a bit different

I saw a blog post the other day that inspired me to make a rice krispie cake, like the ones you make in paper cases, but a whole 6" cake tin of it to be served in slices! I'll be doing a rice krispie wedding cake for a wedding fair I'm doing in September- you never know when someone will be after something a bit different!

And for my return to blogging, some photos. First up, the Vintage Rose Wedding Collection I worked on for a wedding consultation this week. Hoping to add recipes and tutorials along the way. I'd love to know what you'd like to see :)

Cupcakes with a secret, shhh!

Can you make a cake without using butter and eggs? Indeed you can, in fact these little beauties are totally vegan-friendly (dairy and egg free) and could even have been made wheat and gluten free as well! These wedding cupcakes were a mixture of chocolate and marmalade flavour. They were used as table centrepieces and the bride and groom decided not to tell the guests they were vegan until after they had eaten them, although I think a select few with specific dietry requirements were probably let in on the secret! I am very pleased to say that everyone was amazed that they were vegan and the guest who was allergic to eggs was thrilled to be able to eat cake!
